Excellent. The entire piece resonates. Two points stood out for me - Tribalism and passivity ("we let this happen"). The pace of information updates seems to accelerate exponentially as well. We need filters, but how do we define them!? Sometimes we have to shut it off, but when we return, it just so happens that we missed something critical. And then more people ignore? Not sure. I think apathy and ignorance are major reasons above all else.
This saddens me to my core .The lack of humanity cruelty and that one has to be right and one is stupid if they aren’t .I grew up in the 60-70s as everyone said wasn’t perfect .We marched we boycotted we stated a position but we did engage when we disagreed .We didn’t have mobile phone computers or 24 hr TV .We had three channels and were outside to play and we learned as kids to settle arguments .This world is so different frustrating and yet here we are.My grandchild were working DoorDash but paused to show our support by driving the NoKings rallies .Its a moment between generations she 15 plus I’m 70 and it gave us hope .We weren’t isolated in our thinking the signs the instant friendship for a liked belief in that moment was like a shot in the arm of goodness hope and resilience and had been lacking At its core was the need for Democracy and treating everyone with civility.A novel concept .I want our Humanity and acceptance back thanks for sharing and writing
The answer for many, if they are truthful; people became self-absorbed, selfish, greedy, their "feelings" were limited to theirs and them, if that, folks ears were were stuffed with "buds", their eyes became shut, their mouths silenced with protein drinks, their bodies reshaped by ozempic/botox/bbm/hair implants, drinked/drugged to numb, they bathe themselves in lies, showered in recreated history, lived in boxes of faux News, clothe in picked out Bible, Torah, Quran verses, common sense was not common for them, and shouted down truth, justice and the American way for all.
This is a question I have asked myself so many times since Inauguration Day. But the truth is, our country has been sliding into this hateful rhetoric for years only to be worsened by Trump 1 and Trump 2. Back in the day, people settled an argument by having a conversation, a handshake and maybe shrugging it off. Now it's screaming at each other over social media with neither side listening to what the other side is saying. Whether it be friend or family or otherwise, it ends these days with family members no longer speaking, friends de-friending friends and sometimes even violent actions. It's sad really that this is what the country has become and I am not here for it at all! Beautiful song by the way!
Speaking for myself, I am overwhelmed with exhaustion and disappointment. I feel like if this is the “people’s choice”, then it is on them to fix it if they’re unhappy with that choice now. If they’re happy with these fundamental changes to our country and want a phony strongman to tell them what to do and how to think, then that is the verdict and that is our fate, collectively. Welcome to AmeriKKKa.
Nearly 90 million eligible voters (2024) didn’t vote. Clearly, for whatever reason they were not voting for a choice they felt a “must vote.” They must be engaged to “fix it” if they are unhappy, and I suspect, indeed many are very unhappy.

Well stated and worth preserving.
I feel this could have all been written and been true for any of the years since Eisenhower gave his infamous farewell, that has fallen on deaf ears…
